The Powers Art Center is open to the public from 11:00AM to 4:00PM, Tuesday through Friday. The exception to these hours may be for scheduled maintenance, holidays, or weather related closures.
Powers Art Center is excited to continue our Exhibit "Celebrating Jasper Johns" on June 1st.. We honor Jasper Johns and celebrate his 90th Birthday by presenting a retrospective of 144 master prints that will take you on a journey through 60 years of Johns' creative process.
The lower level Gallery will feature all the works Johns has created and printed at his personal studio, "Low Road Studio" in Sharon Connecticut. The 32 prints are presented chronologically, dating from 1998 to his most recent print, from January 2020.
The upper level Galleries allow you to immerse yourself in the works on paper Johns has created from 1960 to 2018. The exhibit spans Johns' entire career from instantly recognizable works made early on, incorporating numbers, targets and the American flag, to pure abstract depictions of everyday objects.
Johns is one of the most important print makers in Western art, drawing comparison with Rembrandt, Goya and Picasso for the way he experimented with various methods, among them screen-print, etchings, linocuts and lithography.
The Powers Art Center also exhibits an extensive collection of Takashi Nakazato ceramic works. Takashi is the 13th generation in his family to create traditional Karatsu ceramics and has been part of the Powers collection for decades.
